Over time, we realize that your campsite might need a little bit of sprucin' up. Occasionally, your canvas tent may collect dirt, dust, or mildew or your site tables may need a little bit of love. Not to worry - it is the outdoors, after all!
Here's a quick guide to cleaning and maintaining your campsite supplies. Regular maintenance, cleanings, and inspections for mold and mildew buildup will keep your canvas tent in working order for years to come.
Please download the helpful Maintenance PDF powerpoint for visuals and tips on maintaining your gear at the bottom of this article!
TENTRR TENT
We recommend cleaning the tent every few months with a product called Iosso or a mild soap and water solution. The tent can be power washed and scrubbed. Please do not use bleach as it wears away the canvas over time. It is important to take the tent down for the winter and hibernate your campsite. Please reach out to us if you need assistance on how to do this.
*To ensure your tent lasts longer we recommend to our Campkeepers to purchase a rain fly through our Tentrr Mercantile store, HERE. This helps prevent water from coming in on the floor of the tent.
Rips/Tears
Minor rips/tears can be repaired using our tear aid patch kit which can be purchased online through our Tentrr Mercantile store. Follow the directions provided on the product. If the rips/tears are too large or if your tent has a hole in it then you will need to submit a maintenance request
*Make sure when opening the tent the zipper is all the way up before tying back the canvas doors.
If you need to restock your campsite or check out the cleaning solutions we have available, you can purchase it in your Tentrr Mercantile account!
Side Crate TABLES
Mold Issue
To prevent any mold, please keep the side crates inside the canvas tent at all times. If you are experiencing any mold issues with your crate side tables you will need to sand them down using 100 grit sandpaper until the surface is clean again. Then you will need to seal it with Olympic Maximum waterproof sealant, which can be purchased easily at Home Depot, HERE. Follow the directions provided on the product.
Rodent Issue
If you are experiencing an issue with rodents getting into and making nests in your bedside tables we suggest peppermint oil as it is a natural deterrent for mice and works quite well. You can purchase Mighty Mint spray through our online Mercantile store. It’s great for insect & pest control including spiders, ants, and other critters. Follow the directions provided on the product. You can also use undiluted peppermint oil by placing 5 drops on a cotton ball and placing the cotton ball in the area where you want to deter them from. Another good option is a battery operated ultrasonic rodent repellent which emits ultrasonic waves and LED flashlights to deter pests.
Picnic Table Benches
Mold Issue
If you are experiencing any mold issues with your benches you will need to sand them down using 100 grit sandpaper until the surface is clean again. Then you will need to seal it with Olympic Maximum waterproof sealant, which can be purchased easily at Home Depot, HERE. Follow the directions provided on the product.
BED
Metal Frame
The metal bed frames are easy to maintain, we recommend wiping them down to ensure there is no dust and to prevent any rust. A simple wet cloth can easily get the job done!
Mattress
Foam Mattress
It is crucial to make sure you are washing the mattress cover regularly that is provided with our foam mattresses.
- If a new mattress/cover is needed, you can purchase them through our Tentrr Mercantile store, HERE.
Campbox Cabinet
Rodent Issue
If you have one of our cabinets with storage and are having issues with rodents getting into and making nests inside them, we suggest peppermint oil as it is a natural deterrent for mice and works quite well. Mighty Mint spray is a good brand for insect & pest control. It also works well for spiders, ants, and other critters. Follow the directions provided on the product. You can also use undiluted peppermint oil by placing 5 drops on a cotton ball and placing the cotton ball where you want to deter them from. If you are experiencing critters such as porcupines chewing on the outside of your benches you can purchase a bottle of Pest Rid Repellent Spray or 4-the-birds Liquid Repellent spray through our online Tentrr Mercantile store.
Doors Warping
If you are experiencing warping issues with the door on your kitchen cabinet then you will need a new door. Contact us at campkeeper@tentrr.com
Tentrr Loo
Eventually, the toilet will wear out, you can always seal the wood base with a clear sealant. To prevent the toilet from warping, keep the Loo inside your canvas tent when you do not have campers. The buckets will also occasionally need replacing as well for they can crack or break from the natural elements (such as the cold). You can purchase these items through our online Tentrr Mercantile store, HERE.
*Make sure your loo sticker is on the Loo!
Solar Shower
Unfortunately, if your handle breaks, there really is no fix for that but you can purchase a new solar shower through our online Tentrr Mercantile store, HERE.
Quick Tip: Purchase a bucket to hold the weight of the solar shower, and cut a hole in it for the hose to be placed through. This helps alleviate the strain on the handle of the solar shower and extends the life of your solar shower. See video here.
Water Carrier
Mold Issue
To prevent mold from growing inside your water carrier and it’s spout, please be sure to drain all remaining water from the carrier and leave the spout in the open position after your campers have gone. If you’re not afraid of losing the spout, it’s even better to completely remove the spout from the carrier for better airflow which allows for more thorough drying of the inside of the carrier.
*A monthly deep clean is recommended by using Clorox Diluted Cleaning to scrub the inside of the water carrier and then rinsing the solution out thoroughly with water.
Decks
If you are experiencing any issues with warping or framing boards separating from your deck, please take a few pictures of the problem area and submit a maintenance request. Please be sure to include a phone number that we can reach you at and the best times to reach you so we can assist you in solving the problem.
*We recommend occasionally re-sealing your deck with Thompson’s Water Seal found HERE from Lowe’s.
Propane Heater
The propane heater requires a battery for the ignition to work. Please be sure to frequently replace this and make sure propane tank is always filled before campers arrive.
*If you have a Wood Stove
If you are experiencing water inside your stove or leaking inside the tent around the stove area you can solve this problem by installing a storm collar on the outside of your tent. Simply remove the rain cap from the top of the stovepipe and slide the storm collar onto the stovepipe with the flared side facing downward until it is resting on top of the tent. You will then start to tighten the bolt on the storm collar until it is almost snug to the stovepipe but leaving just enough space to place a bead of fire retardant silicone all the way around the stovepipe. Make sure to place the silicone around the stovepipe about ⅛” from the top of the storm collar and then finish completely tightening the storm collar bolt until it is firmly tightened but being cautious not to over tighten it. You can purchase a storm collar and fire retardant silicone through our online Tentrr Mercantile store.
If you need to restock your campsite or check out the cleaning solutions we have available, you can purchase it in your Tentrr Mercantile account. After attempting to repair or fix the item on your own and further assistance is needed, please use this form to submit a maintenance request, HERE.
